I often wonder about the rule of thirds and why it is that it seems to look better - because its not always the case. I agree with you that in this case centering the sun is good. But I think the bird to one side makes it work. I think without the bird, the sun would need to move a bit to the side, but I don't think clear to a third. I'm starting to develop a liking for "just off centered". Beautiful colors and I feel a chill in the air that would make me anxious for the heat from the sun. Nice capture of mood and idea.

I tried a 2/3 crop also on the horizont but the picture seems odd. The sun in the middle of the horizontal line gives the picture a more blanced look and because it's shining it also draws the eyes to it. I somehow feel this picture looks better if it's got a little simmetry in it. At dawn/dusk the sun always plays the important part of the picture so it's no mistake to place it at center of the hrizontal/vertical line IF you don't have a better subject for the photo.
Loved that song! Just personal preference but I'm just not a fan of all things centered so for me a crop off either side would make the eye travel to the sun. It is beautiful any way you look at it.
Breaking dawn...beautiful shot with peaceful color. love how you've cropped your shot with the horizon in the lower third. kudos to you on your entry for this week.
