Just catching up. Talegi brings up another hobby. The geocache reference is another hobby. Google it. Let's just say it's like hide and seek with trinkets. TopDogy - I didn't use fade correction but sometimes do. I used a little unsharp mask for high contrast. Too much U.M. can make an image grainy. If anyone wants to experiment...create a google account, sign up for picasa and upload your photos to a gallery, then try picnic. It's free and fun to experiment with some processing tools. You have to upload hi-rez images though then re-download after your editing. That's the only drag. Thanks folks for commenting. I hope you can spare a boost or 2.

I really like your entry. Great take on this week's topic! what is this about a geochache? Hummm...could that be what the light in far tunnel is all about?

Deleted  1/17/2012 8:41:30 AM

Did you use the fade correction on this as the black and whites really pop out so well

Talegi I see there's at least 3 within a quarter mile or so.

I went back to this spot again today...lighting wasn't the same nor the experience. Now I appreciate what I got. Ohhh I even climbed the wall. Don't know why.

Love the b&w-really adds to the shot! I would have been tempted to climb those stone steps of the first tunnel. Just a wonderful photo!

btw... kudos for going out for a new shot. I know not everyone can do it, but I always like when some are able to.

It is a striking photo. I'm curious about the first "tunnel". I'm guessing it must have been built to support some kind of overpass. Do you know if that is the case.

Good eye Joie. As I continued my walk into the tunnel...sure enough there was a light. I hadn't noticed it in this photo til you said something. I was tempted to submit another photo inside the tunnel with "the light", but this had more character. Visit my wall and click my link. If you do facebook, friend me...I'll post it after the race.

Joiemagic  1/15/2012 3:51:58 AM

Don't know how long the second tunnel is, but looking at the rail you might tend to think there was a train coming down the tracks in the distance and you are just seeing the first indication of it... It looks like when I look down the subway tunnel with an on-coming train, just a hint of light, then you see it lighten up... Beautiful capture and yes, I want to take a walk up the path to the right as well, to see where it leads. I'll be back.

1909 in the blocks above the arch. Very subtle but still visible.

I love your photo, most especially how you took it in black & white which in my opinion only adds to the picture as a whole. You most definitely have my votes :o)

CrankyManges  1/14/2012 2:58:24 PM

The framing of the second tunnel with the first tunnel worked really well. You also did a nice job placing where the tracks entered the frame--its a very gently leads my eyes into the photo.

I'm lucky enough to live by railroad tracks and went for a long walk today and shot this. I liked it because my eyes are drawn down the tunnel but I also want to take a hike up the right and see what's up the hill. Hope you enjoy it. No HDR used.

What a shot I love arches and I love trains so to see the tracks going through a beautifull old brick arch but then it is topped off by going into a further mountain tunnell Great shot Love it
