The other lighthouse that the architect was building was Cape Lookout. That lighthouse was painted the black and white diamond shape that was supposed to go on Cape Hatteras lighthouse. I have visited 6 lighthouses in New Jersey and Portland Head lighthouse in Maine.
I think this would be more successful if you used portrait instead of landscape. Landscape makes it appear shorter. Other than that, great job. I like the lens flare, btw/
@UA, I lived in North Carolina for 13 years, and had to take numerous state history courses that covered the lighthouses on our coast. I don't remember any of them mentioning that the architect got his plans mixed up. It makes perfectly good since though! They must have been embarrassed haha.

@unusual, how many lights have you had the opportunity to visit? What's different about the other barber pole light and where is it???
one interesting note: this lighthouse was supposed to be painted a black and white diamond pattern (because it is on the "diamond shoals)but the architect got the plans mixed up with another lighthouse he was building.
@cranky it is a matter of taste. usually it is avoided because it is not actually there in the scene but sometimes helps to add dramatic effect to a photo. still a great shot. and one lighthouse I would love to visit!
Great shot! I agree with unusualangles about the glare from the sun, but really an awesome shot! @unusualangles- thanks for posting the extra information! I love lighthouses too, but I've only seen them in photos. Maybe one day I'll get to see one and get to take pictures of them too! I hope so! :)
23rd tallest in the world! Beautiful shot of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, "the big barber pole". Warning sailors of the Diamond Shoals for aover 100 years. Great technique. I don't like the glare from the sun but otherwise a great shot. PS I am also a lighthouse fanatic!

It must be a matter of taste--I like the lens glare in this photo.
